Some may or may not have anything to do with your heating and air conditioning equipment. The following are brief explanations of each service that RJS Heating and Air, Inc. currently offers, along with consumer educational videos for you to see how these services can help lower your energy cost and make your home more comfortable.

Blower Door Testing
A blower door is a variable speed fan that is mounted in an exterior door frame, used to pressurize or depressurize a house to measure the amount of air leakage entering or leaving the structure. We also use this test to pinpoint the issues so that they can be corrected by you as the homeowner or RJS. Please see www.energystar.gov for details.


Infrared Thermal Imaging
Along with blower door testing and duct testing an infrared camera is another great tool that can be used to determine infiltration air leakage issues, missing insulation in walls and ceilings & water leaks behind walls or in ceilings. Duct Testing
A duct blower is a variable speed fan that is attached to a duct system to measure duct leakage. The same blower can then be used to pinpoint and seal the leaks to meet approved guidelines for a sealed duct system. Please see www.doe.gov for details.

Indoor Air Quality
There are many different types of air filtering systems on the market today. You can pick up the phone on any given day and call any number of contractors who will explain to you that they have the best model air filter for your situation and that it will solve all your problems. Bad air comes from many different places. Have you ever wondered why there is so much dust floating through that beam of sunlight coming through your living room window? Or maybe get upset when dust covers you furniture the day after you cleaned the house. These same duct particles are in the air you breathe. Yes filtering the air will help but only if you stop or slow down the bad air from entering your home. Air infiltration is outdoor air that enters the home from doors and windows (which is good air) as well as from the attic and crawl space which is bad air. The bad air comes from the attic and crawl space that is filled with fiberglass insulation, mold spores, dust, pollen as well as many other contaminants. If a contractor does not test to see where the bad air is coming from and then fix the infiltration problems then the new air filter will not do what you need it to do and in some cases will make the problem worse.
